Even Though its Winter does not mean you can’t enjoy some of the best walks Canterbury has to offer.

These Day walks are fun for the whole family and can be done by hikers of any skill level. They offer a good opportunity to get away from technology and enjoy some fresh air and wonderful sights.

Hanmer springs may be famous for its thermal pools but these walks are sure to take your breath away with multiple walks all located a short trip from the town centre.

Nature Trail, Fir Trail, Forest Amble, Woodland Walk, Dog Stream Reserve, and Camp Track are all walks which will offer rewarding views and a good excuse to go to the thermal hot pools afterwards.

Located 2 hours away from Christchurch, all these walks are less than an hour long, so make the most of it and see the best nature has to offer.

Kaituna Valley

Banks Peninsula was formed by multiple volcanic eruptions and has created some amazing walks and sights a short drive from the Christchurch CBD.

This walk starts in the Kaituna valley and ends at the Packhorse hut which takes about 2 hours.

Once there the walk can be extended out to Mt Herbert depending on ability and can be finished either in Kaituna valley or Diamond harbour.

This Walk can also be turned into an overnight tramp ideal for dipping your toes in tramping.

Wharfdale v2

Located in the Oxford Forest conservation area this forest walk is a good walk for beginners.

Depending on which track you walk it can be between 1-3 hours.

Perfect for walking the dog , the kids or even a day escape with the girls.
